To celebrate our refreshed Fluent illustrations, we created a sizzle video that highlights a series of connected objects across our Fluent design language through an illustration film.

Abstract 3D shapes including a lime green blob, a purple heart, and colorful geometric objects float around a white rectangle with triangle and circle symbols against a soft beige background.

Vision

The heart of the video celebrates the vibrancy, dimensionality, and humanity of the illustration system, crafting a visual narrative that highlights the aesthetic appeal of the illustrations while conveying their emotional impact. Details like human imperfections, painterly textures, and playful animations emphasize the emotional connection between technology and humanity, as well as the tactility of the system.

Exploring the world of Fluent illustrations meant placing the camera at unique angles and points of view that were otherwise limited in UI. Elements emerge directly from the surface of Fluent, with fluid and adaptive forms morphing across every surface in both literal and metaphorical applications. These elements also traverse the world, showcasing the flexibility and modularity of the system, brought to life across our seamless experiences, adapted and reused across several products. We celebrate the world of dimensionality and create moments of surprise and delight through each element.

Abstract design featuring a colorful 3D composition with spheres, a green plus sign, and a purple "T" logo on a pastel background. The scene includes geometric shapes and color gradients, creating a modern and playful aesthetic.
A colorful digital illustration featuring a 3D checkmark icon surrounded by circular buttons on the left, and abstract shapes and patterns on the right. The design has a modern aesthetic with a pastel color palette.
A colorful representation of abstract shapes on a grid with soft pastel hues. Circular and rectangular elements in green, purple, and blue are arranged on a light surface, accompanied by small icons like hearts and baskets.
A collection of colorful, abstract 3D icons on a light background. Icons include mail, play button, hashtag, paintbrush, lightning bolt, location pin, sun, text, check mark, heart, and gear. Each icon is uniquely designed with a playful and vibrant look.

Process

We embraced a new creative process for the film’s production, bringing together a v-team of designers, animators, and sound designers from various product teams. Everyone was open to ideas and eager to experiment, generating excitement throughout the collaborative process. This fostered a free flow of ideas and united a talented group we might not have collaborated with otherwise. Throughout the process, we iterated on both sound and animation simultaneously to create a harmonious sync between the narrative and the overall feel.

A geometric abstract composition featuring pastel-colored blocks and platforms. Two small bowls with spherical objects are placed on top, while the background displays subtle hues of pink, blue, and mint green.
A minimalistic image featuring a pink egg-shaped object resting in a white holder that resembles an ice cube tray. The tray has two empty round compartments and a multicolored bar nearby, with shades of blue, purple, and orange.
A smooth, white sphere is placed on a glossy surface with abstract shapes nearby. A marbled blue and pink button-like object is in the background, creating a minimalist, modern composition with soft lighting.
Colorful 3D icons on a light background: a multicolored shield with a checkmark, a lock with rainbow bar, and two pastel discs with dots. A gear icon is also visible on the side, depicting security and settings themes.
